- Add your screenshot. Upload, drag-and-drop, or paste it (Ctrl/⌘+V, or the Paste button). It must show the scale bar and a blue pin near the centre of your study area. Undo reverts the last image you loaded.
- Set the scale. Click Click scale-bar ends, then click the two ends of the scale bar in the image and type the real distance it represents. Every measurement is derived from this — check it against a known feature.
- Pin & study box. The blue pin nearest the centre is found automatically (or use Place pin by click). A red box of the size you set (default 200 m per side) is drawn around it — that's your working area. Change the size, or switch to “m² total area”, any time.
- Detect buildings. Click Sample buildings and click a typical rooftop to grab its shade — sample up to 3 shades if roofs vary (e.g. white-grey and pale-yellow); a building matching any of them counts. Then Detect buildings. Any building the box edge cuts through is excluded (amber). Tune with the tolerance slider and min/max size, remove a shade by clicking its swatch, or Add / Remove by click to fix misses.
- Read the results. A random sample (always a multiple of 2, up to your target of 20) of nearest-neighbour distances appears in the table — Copy for Sheets / Excel to paste it out. Below it, Rn (the Nearest Neighbour Index) gives the clustered / random / dispersed verdict with a Z-score.
Tip. A 200 m box captures a decent sample; make it smaller or larger in step 3 to suit your area. Each “New random sample” redraws the points, so Rn will vary slightly between draws — that's normal for sampling. All processing happens in your browser; your screenshots never leave your device.
